1. Agreement to terms
These Terms of Service (the "Terms") form a binding contract between you ("you," "your") and Alex Costa, an individual based in the United States, doing business as Arcana Origin ("Arcana Origin," "we," "us," "our"). By accessing or using the website at arcanaorigin.com and any related services (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms.
If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
By using the Service you also accept our Privacy Policy.
2. The Service
Arcana Origin is a web application that produces symbolic, divinatory, and astrological readings derived from your name, date of birth, and (optionally) time and place of birth. The Service combines deterministic calculation engines (numerology, astronomical ephemeris, calendrical algorithms drawn from named traditions) with AI-generated narrative interpretation. We offer free and paid tiers.
The Service is provided "as is" for personal, non-commercial use, except where you separately license a Practitioner tier, in which case limited commercial use is permitted as described in section 7.
3. Your account and credentials
You access the Service either anonymously (free tier, gated by email) or via a credit token issued after a paid purchase. You are responsible for keeping your credit token secure. The token is stored in your browser's local storage; clearing browser data may erase your token. If you lose access, contact hello@arcanaorigin.com with proof of purchase (Stripe receipt or Checkout Session ID) and we will restore your access.
You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction) to make a purchase. The Service is not directed at users under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA).
You may not share, sell, or transfer your credits or subscription except where expressly permitted (e.g., a Practitioner reading for a paying client).
4. Pricing, subscriptions, and renewals
Current pricing is displayed in the Service at checkout. The following tiers are available as of the "Last updated" date:
| Tier | Price | Includes | Renewal |
|---|---|---|---|
| Visitor | Free | 1 complete reading per email and per network per 30 days, web view only, no PDF export | Non-recurring |
| Seeker | $11 USD one-time | 7 reading credits, full PDF, never expires | Non-recurring |
| Master | $33 USD / month | 20 reading credits per month, full PDF, all traditions | Auto-renews monthly until cancelled |
| Practitioner | $88 USD / month | Read as often as you need for personal practice or paying clients (subject to abuse-prevention rate limits — currently 5 readings per hour per token) | Auto-renews monthly until cancelled |
Subscription renewals. Paid subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period using the payment method on file. You authorize us (through Stripe) to charge your method until you cancel.
Price changes. If we increase the price of an existing subscription, we will give you at least 30 days' notice by email. Your continued use after the new price takes effect constitutes acceptance. If you do not agree, cancel before the renewal date.
Taxes. Prices are exclusive of any sales tax, VAT, GST, or similar tax that may apply in your jurisdiction. Where required by law, the applicable tax will be added at checkout.
Automatic Renewal Terms (Required Disclosure for California Subscribers)
This disclosure is provided to comply with California Business & Professions Code §17600 et seq., but the substance applies to all subscribers worldwide.
- Recurring billing: Subscriptions automatically renew at the price disclosed at the time of purchase. The renewal is charged to the payment method on file.
- Billing frequency: Monthly — on the same calendar day each month as your purchase date (or the last day of a shorter month).
- How to cancel: At any time before the next renewal date. Web subscriptions: via the Stripe Customer Portal link in your purchase receipt or by emailing hello@arcanaorigin.com. Subscriptions bought through Apple: in your Apple ID subscription settings (Settings → your name → Subscriptions); we cannot cancel an Apple subscription for you. Cancellation is effective at the end of your current billing period.
- Minimum purchase term: None. You can cancel any time and you will not be billed again after cancellation.
- Price increases: We will give you at least 30 days' written notice (by email) before any price increase takes effect, and you may cancel before the new price applies.
- Trial conversion: We do not currently offer a paid trial that auto-converts to a paid subscription. If we ever offer one, the conversion terms will be disclosed clearly at the point of signup.
The iOS app has its own terms. Purchases made inside the Arcana Origin iOS app (reading keys and the Seeker Monthly / Seeker Annual subscriptions) are sold through Apple and governed by the App Terms of Service and the App Privacy Policy at arcanaorigin.app, not by this document. The "Seeker" tier in the table above is the web product only: a one-time $11 purchase that never renews. Keys bought in the app and credits bought on the web share one balance tied to your token or account.
5. Refunds and cancellations
Subscriptions. You may cancel at any time through the Stripe Customer Portal (link provided in your purchase receipt and welcome email). Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you retain access until then. We do not pro-rate partial-month refunds for cancellation unless required by law.
Refund policy. If you are not satisfied with your purchase, email hello@arcanaorigin.com within 14 days of the charge and we will refund the full purchase price of that charge — no questions asked, whether or not you have used the credits. For a subscription, the refund covers the most recent charge and the subscription is cancelled at the same time. Refunds are returned to the original payment method within 5–10 business days. We reserve the right to decline further purchases from anyone who uses the 14-day refund repeatedly to obtain readings for free. Refunds for purchases made through the iOS app are requested from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com and are governed by Apple's terms; the 14-day offer above applies to purchases made on arcanaorigin.com.
EU / UK statutory right of withdrawal. If you are a consumer in the EEA, UK, or another jurisdiction with a statutory cooling-off period, you have 14 days from the date of purchase to withdraw. By starting to use the Service immediately (e.g., generating a reading), you may waive this right for the credits consumed; unused credits remain refundable.
Failed payments. If a renewal payment fails, we will retry per Stripe's standard dunning schedule and may pause your subscription. We will email you before any service interruption.
6. Acceptable use
You agree NOT to:
- Scrape, mirror, or republish the Service or its outputs at scale
- Resell readings to third parties except under a Practitioner subscription
- Use automation, bots, or scripts to generate readings beyond the published rate limits
- Use the Service to harass, threaten, defame, or harm any individual
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose, including fraud, money laundering, or violations of export controls
- Attempt to circumvent rate limits, payment requirements, or security mechanisms
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract our prompts or model weights
- Submit data about a third party without their consent
- Probe, scan, or test for vulnerabilities except under a formal disclosure program (contact us first)
We may suspend or terminate access for violations.
Abuse-prevention limits
No plan is rationed. The only limits on the Service are automated abuse-prevention limits, which exist to stop bots, scripted use, scraping and resale — never to reduce what a paying subscriber receives. They are set far above any human pace of use: currently 5 readings per hour per token, the same figure stated in the pricing table above, and no daily cap applies to normal use. If you ever reach a limit while using the Service yourself, the Service will tell you, access resumes automatically within the hour, and it is not a breach of these terms. If a limit is getting in the way of legitimate use — for example a Practitioner serving several clients in one sitting — email hello@arcanaorigin.com and we will raise it.
- One person, one subscription. Credentials are personal to you. Sharing, reselling, or operating a subscription on behalf of multiple end users is not permitted, except under a Practitioner subscription used to serve your own clients.
- No automation. Accessing the Service with scripts, bots or bulk tools, or reselling its output as a service, is abuse and may result in suspension without refund of the current period.
What we do about sustained excess. Where usage repeatedly exceeds these limits, or shows signs of automated access, credential sharing or resale, we may review the account. Except where the activity is clearly automated, fraudulent, or unlawful, we will contact you first and give you a reasonable opportunity to explain or correct the usage before restricting a paid subscription. We may then apply a lower rate limit, decline to renew, or suspend or terminate access under section 12. If we terminate a paid subscription for sustained excess and you have not breached these terms in any other way, we will refund the unused portion of your current billing period.
We may change the fair-use figures with reasonable notice under section 16. We will not reduce them below a level that supports ordinary use of the plan you purchased.
7. Intellectual property
Our IP. All software, code, design, branding, system prompts, calculation engines, and the interpretation methodology underlying the Service are the intellectual property of Arcana Origin and its licensors. We reserve all rights not expressly granted to you.
Public-domain sources. Many calendrical and astrological traditions reference public-domain texts (e.g., Wilhelm-Baynes I Ching, Cheiro's numerology, Budge's Egyptian translations, Lebor Gabala Erenn). These remain in the public domain; our presentation and synthesis of them are protected.
Your data. You retain ownership of the personal information you submit. You grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to process that information solely to deliver the Service, as described in the Privacy Policy.
Your readings. Generated readings (the PDF, the on-screen output) are yours to keep, share with friends, and use for personal practice. You may not resell or republish them as commercial content without our written permission. Practitioner-tier subscribers may share a reading they generated for a specific paying client of theirs (one client, one reading).
Feedback. If you send us feedback, suggestions, or bug reports, you grant us an unrestricted, perpetual, royalty-free license to use them without obligation.
8. Disclaimer of professional advice
AI-generated content disclosure
The narrative interpretation in your reading is generated by an artificial-intelligence model (Anthropic Claude). AI-generated text can contain errors, anachronisms, paraphrases of public-domain sources, and statements that, while internally consistent, may not be factually accurate when compared against the originating tradition or against your actual life. You should treat every reading as a creative interpretation, not as an objectively correct statement about you.
We do our best to ground each chapter in cited public-domain texts (e.g., Wilhelm-Baynes I Ching, Cheiro's compound numbers, Budge's translations) and in deterministic calculations from named correlations (e.g., GMT 584283 for the Maya, Lahiri ayanamsa for Vedic). But the synthesis is AI-authored and shaped by the model's training. We make no warranty that any specific statement is correct, complete, or applicable to your circumstances.
You agree to use your own judgment when reading the output, to disregard anything that does not resonate, and not to use the Service as a substitute for advice from a qualified human professional.
By using the Service you acknowledge the disclaimers above.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, non-infringement, or uninterrupted operation. We do not warrant that the Service will be free of bugs, errors, or interruptions, or that any information presented is correct, complete, or current.
Some jurisdictions do not allow exclusion of certain warranties, so portions of this section may not apply to you.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Arcana Origin, Alex Costa, and any contractors or affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages — including loss of profits, data, opportunity, goodwill, or other intangible losses — arising from or related to your use of the Service, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
Our total aggregate liability to you for any claim arising from or related to the Service shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) one hundred US dollars ($100).
Nothing in this section limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable consumer-protection law.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Arcana Origin from any claim, demand, loss, liability, or expense (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from (a) your violation of these Terms, (b) your misuse of the Service, (c) your violation of any third-party right (including any intellectual-property or privacy right), or (d) any reading you share, resell, or otherwise distribute outside the permitted scope.
12. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate your access immediately, without notice, for any violation of these Terms or for any reason in our reasonable discretion (including suspected fraud, chargeback abuse, or threat to system stability). Upon termination, unused credits may be forfeited, except where prohibited by law or where the termination is for our convenience.
You may stop using the Service at any time. Cancellation of a subscription does not, by itself, delete your account data — to do that, email hello@arcanaorigin.com as described in the Privacy Policy.
13. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply. Where mandatory consumer-protection law of your country of habitual residence (e.g., EU member states, the UK) grants you stronger rights, those rights remain unaffected.
Informal resolution first. Before filing any claim, you agree to first contact us at hello@arcanaorigin.com with a description of the dispute and to attempt to resolve it informally for at least 30 days.
Venue. Any claim that cannot be resolved informally shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in New Castle County, Delaware, and you consent to personal jurisdiction in those courts. EU consumers may bring proceedings in the courts of their country of residence as permitted by Article 18 of EU Regulation 1215/2012 (Brussels I bis).
Class-action waiver. To the extent permitted by law, you and Arcana Origin agree that any dispute will be brought in an individual capacity and not as a class action, representative action, or class arbitration.
If any provision of this section is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in effect.
Optional binding arbitration (US residents)
If you are a US resident, instead of filing in court, you may elect — and we may elect — to resolve the dispute through binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules. Arbitration will be conducted on an individual basis (not as a class). Either party may bring small-claims cases (under the small-claims limit in your jurisdiction) in court rather than arbitration. You may opt out of arbitration within 30 days of first agreeing to these Terms by emailing hello@arcanaorigin.com with the subject "Arbitration Opt-Out." Opting out does not affect the other terms of this agreement.
14. Force majeure
We are not liable for any failure or delay in performing our obligations under these Terms caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to:
- Outages or service degradation of upstream providers (Anthropic, Stripe, Cloudflare, Google) that we cannot mitigate
- Acts of God, fire, flood, earthquake, or other natural disasters
- War, terrorism, civil unrest, or government action
- Internet, telecommunications, or power infrastructure failures
- Pandemics, public-health orders, or government-mandated lockdowns
- Cyberattacks, denial-of-service attacks, or other security incidents originating outside our infrastructure
If a force-majeure event prevents us from delivering the Service for more than 7 consecutive days, you may cancel an active subscription and we will refund the unused portion of your current billing period on a pro-rata basis.
15. General provisions
Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any documents expressly incorporated by reference, constitute the entire agreement between you and Arcana Origin regarding the Service. Any prior agreements, communications, or representations are superseded.
Severability. If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect, and the invalid provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable while preserving the parties' original intent.
Survival. Provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination — including but not limited to Intellectual property, Disclaimers, Disclaimer of warranties, Limitation of liability, Indemnification, and Governing law and disputes — shall survive any termination or expiration of your access to the Service.
Waiver. No failure or delay by Arcana Origin in exercising any right under these Terms shall constitute a waiver of that right. A waiver of any breach of these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of any subsequent breach.
Assignment. You may not assign or transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign or transfer our rights and obligations under these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, sale of all or substantially all of our assets, or by operation of law, without your consent. We will give you reasonable notice if any such assignment materially affects your subscription terms.
Notices. Legal notices to you will be sent to the email address associated with your account. Legal notices to us must be sent to hello@arcanaorigin.com with the subject line "Legal Notice." Notices are deemed received on the day sent if sent before 5pm UTC on a business day, otherwise on the next business day.
Electronic communications and consent. By using the Service, you consent to receive communications from us electronically, including via email and via notices posted in the Service. You agree that electronic communications satisfy any legal requirement that such communications be in writing.
Headings. Section headings are for convenience only and do not affect the interpretation of these Terms.
No third-party beneficiaries. These Terms do not create rights in favor of any third party.
16. Changes to these terms
We may revise these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date reflects the current version. We will give reasonable notice of material changes — at least 14 days for active subscribers — by email and by posting a notice on the website. Your continued use of the Service after the new Terms take effect constitutes acceptance. If you do not agree, stop using the Service and request a refund within the policy in section 5.
