Take only the vowels — A, E, I, O, U — from your full birth name and give each its Pythagorean value (A=1, E=5, I=9, O=6, U=3). Is Y a vowel in numerology?
It depends on the school. The most common convention — the one this calculator uses — treats Y as a consonant, counting it toward the Personality Number instead. Some numerologists count Y as a vowel when it functions as one (as in "Lynn"). If you follow that school, your Soul Urge may differ slightly; the difference only matters when a Y is doing vowel-work in your name.
What is the difference between the Soul Urge and Expression number?
Both come from your full birth name. The Expression (Destiny) Number sums every letter and describes your outward talents and life goal. The Soul Urge Number sums only the vowels and describes your inner motivation — what your heart privately wants. The consonants alone give a third number, the Personality, which is the impression you make on others.
